Every Entrepreneur has to start with a HOT MARKET market.
The best way to start any business is with success, that means many visitors looking for your business, wanting your products, and eagerly buying from you.
Imagine the problem of having to fulfill TOO MANY ORDERS.

But it seems that we have the great ideas and that the market really does not understand what a marvelous product we have to offer.
So before you start any business, before you spend a dime on the business, before you jump into any business opportunities, do your homework.
Write your business plan.

When writing your business plan, the most critical part is to define your positioning statement.
Positioning has everything to do with:
Who is your buyer.
This is the focus of this article:
To help you define an ideal Buyer, or more precisely, your target Group of Buyers -market segment. from the very start.
It will give you a powerful, practical, method to concentrate your efforts in a particular Group of Buyers, niche, or market segments.
This is what will improve your chances of success.

This article is best read with a piece of paper and pencil so that you WRITE DOWN ALL OF YOUR IDEAS AS THEY POP UP!
Please, no censorship allowed at this stage, let the creative YOU flow freely into the process.
Write them down.

First.
It is very important that you truly enjoy what you will be doing.
Choose a buyer that you can identify with, that you share common values, tastes, habits, and that you feel happy dealing with.
People that share your interests in school subjects, experience on the job, hobbies, or the long sought out dream, are good candidates.
Choose a group of buyers that you like, that you know about, and that you have experience with.
These three elements will improve your probabilities of success spectacularly.
If you choose a market you have no knowledge in, the first stage in your investment will go into learning, and that will take no less than six months of very hard work, and no returns -be realistic.
This step should be broad in perspective, we are narrowing your choices down to a manageable target.

Second,
Ask the question:
Who is my group of buyers?

Who is my group of buyers?
Gender: Gals, Guys, Gays, Lesbian, ...

Age groups:
Babies, Kids, teenagers, young adults, mature adults, seniors,...

Income groups:
Poor, lower middle class, middle class, upper middle class, rich, very rich, extremely rich...

Who are they in a family?
Babies, children, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, grand moms, grandads, boyfriends, girlfriends, expectant moms, wives, husbands,...

Who are they socially?
Teachers -Kinder, primary, high school, college; workers -clerks, fast food, factory; professionals -doctors, lawyers, dentists; fans and athletes -divide by sport and by team, football, basketball, baseball, soccer -attention: World Cup coming up! Collectors -stamps, coins, bills, beer mugs, matchboxes, ashtrays, wine corks, records, cd's, videos; artists -musicians, painters, actors, clowns, comedians; politicians -lawmakers,

Who are they in their spare time?
Gardeners, yachters, hobbies -quilt making, knitting, magazine collectors, hunters,

Who are they in a place?
Car driver, fan, housekeeper, cook, web designer, hotel guest, tourist, host, visitor, shopper,

Who are they in time, special occassions?
Graduate, birthday, Santa Claus, spouse, Grandfather -Mom at Thanksgiving, groom, bride,

Who are they in terms of how much they are willing to spend?
Price range
0-$5; 5 to $15; 15 to $30; 30 to $50; 50 to $100; More than $100

Who are they in terms of taste?
Avant Garde, progressive, adventurous, conservative; Style -Fashion, casual, Gothic, Vintage, formal; Size -Petit, Oversized, normal;

Who are they .... in terms of new categories applicable to your idea or intuition; the possibilities are endless, so set yourself a limit on time spent and questions asked.

When you have a good list of WHO YOUR GROUP OF BUYERS IS, close your eyes and imagine the buyer, at home, in front of the computer, reading your web site, buying your products.

It is very important to fix this picture in your mind. .All things are created twice.

It will help generate very profitable ideas.

Third,
What does your buyer want?
Now that you have a very clear picture in your mind and paper of who your Group of Buyers is going to be, think of what they want in relation to your list. What does your buyer want? Things to make money, be accepted, use, wear, give away, make, save, earn, to improve their role, as analyzed above.

Look for the most popular search terms used. Find a tool that gives you the most information : related search terms, number of searches performed using each keyword; and web sites competing for the same keyword, plus an index that measures the effectiveness of each keyword vs the number of searches and competing sites.

I highly recommend WORDTRACKER, use their free trial with all the above features.
It is the best I have found so far.

Another free tool is offered by Sitesell, none other than the powerful, Search It!

Or try both of course, it is well worth the time to invest in this step!

Example:
Note: I started with a preconceived notion of what I wanted to sell. The method guided me into a niche with a Group of Buyers that wanted to buy, and that I would be happy dealing with!

Let's look at the idea of a second hand clothing site.
You just love to look for bargains at flea markets, garage sales, wholesalers, and the newspaper.
You feel great discovering those fashion jewels amidst the pile of old stufff.

Look at the Yahoo Gear shop,
http://store.yahoo.com/ygear/gals.html

They have the following categories:
GEAR
Gals - Guys
Accesories
Curiosities
Travel
Techie
Outdoor
Home/Office
Kids
Under $10

You would need all these categories if you did not do your homework! This is ok if you are going to compete head on with the mammoth companies in the world! But your potential strength lies in selling to a Group of Buyers that is large enough for you, but small enough that the larger companies haven't seen or have to compete with a modest budget.

Let's narrow our choice down:

Who is my Group of Buyers?
Gender, Gals
Age: young adults
Income groups: upper middle class
  1. Who are they in a family? daughters, girlfriends, expectant moms, wives,...
    Who are they socially? Teachers;
  2. Who are they in their spare time? magazine readers,
  3. Who are they in a place? housekeeper, cook, shopper.
  4. Who are they in time, special occassions? Spouse, Mom at Thanksgiving, bride, daughter in-law;
  5. Who are they in terms of how much they are willing to spend? Price range, confort zone, 15 to $50;
  6. Who are they in terms of taste? Style -Fashion, casual; Size -normal;

Once you have chosen the group of buyers you think you would love to design, manufacture, buy, and sell for, it is time to look at your WordTracker free trial, Click her for a free trial

This is a sample of the results for search terms related to women, young adults, expectant moms:

Rank Keyword                     KEI Analysis     Count     24 hours     Competing
    1 "tips for getting pregnant"     48984.500         626         20                 8
    2 "pregnancy stages"              27054.241       3015         95              336
    3 "baby shower games"          22215.817       6887       217            2135
    4 "baby names"                      13133.824     41916     1323        133773
    5 "womens health"                      820.672       8356       264          85080

    * KEI Index, measures likelihood of a top listing in the search engines; the higher the better.
    * Count, searches performed in their 322 million word database, in the past 60 days,
    * 24hrs, expected searches for the next 24hrs;
    * Competing, how many sites are competing for the keyword analyzed.

You should look for a Group of Buyers that is too small for companies to invest a large budget in, yet large enough for you, and a handful of competitors. If the Group of Buyers seems too small for the larger companies, and you hit the jackpot, YOU MAY VERY WELL BE THE NEXT FORTUNE SUCCESS STORY! Also, if the group of buyers proves to be too small even for a start up, then you will have to move to a different group of buyers.

You have to look for a good balance between a high KEI Index, and enough searches for the term to be worth your time. In this case, "baby shower games", and "baby names", would be great themes for a web site!

    THIS IS VERY VALUABLE INFORMATION!

Once you have finished with this process, you will have written down:

Who your Group of Buyers is?
Information to spur ideas to satisfy WANTS.
What does the GROUP OF BUYERS WANT?
What search terms are your buyers using to spend money?

Go to your search engine and type in the keywords mentioned.
Look at the results, visit the web sites listed. MSN search resulted in only eleven sites for the keyword!
Sign up for their affiliate programs,
Build a web site or web page with the theme chosen: Baby Shower Games.
    Promote the site through:

    1. Major search engine submissions. TrafficZilla is a tool that I use every day for multiple submissions -to Major search engines, free ezine advertising, press releases, etc. They also have a very good analysis of the alternate tactics to promote your web site. 2. Pay per click search engines, Try Sprinks.com, starting at .05 cents per click, or Searchgalore.com, with bids starting at .01 cents per click, and an attractive affiliate program.

3. Ezine advertising, touted by most experts as the most effective way to advertise to your target markets. Get in touch with Bo Ekvall, at Two Bucks and Ad, he's a real gentleman from Sweden, will help you along the way:

Measure results. The best resource available for analyzing the results of your ad campaigns, is Terry Dean's, Scientific Advertising, you can get your copy here:

An Internet business using affiliate programs, will be profitable so long as your revenue is greater than your cost of advertising. Of course, you want the profit to be significant in terms of the time you spend keeping the web site, contact management, placing the ads, and creating products for the Group of Buyers.

If profitable, continue with a longer term advertising campaign, and you have set up your first successful site. Build on your success, improving on the products you offer, reaping the profits of the Life Time Value of your Group of Buyers.

Start again....

You are now ready to test your results against the market, armed with a more thorough understanding of your buyers, what they want -WTW, and the keywords they are using to find sites they will buy from. Now you can get the domain name that is most appealing to your buyers, considering the search terms they will use to find you.
