2. Get your own domain

You can save time if you print this page, you and I do a little homework, do a little sharing and we'll get to your domain name.
Your friendly roving reporter,
Alex

1. Sit down with your friends, family, or favorite lively music and pet, to brainstorm for names that could brand your business in the Internet.

Use pencil and paper.

2. Brainstorm rules
There are no rules in brainstorming, just tips!
a. Think and write, do it as you would a "What's the Movie?", game, shouting out loud one after the other, till you roll with laughter!
b. Weed out the really bad ones.
c. When you have AT LEAST 25 names written in paper -that's right, TWENTY FIVE NAMES, then you are ready to go to the domain Registration –step 3

Note. If you are a spreadsheet user, then do the following:
2.1 Write them up in a column in a spreadsheet, put an "*" at the end of each name.
Example:
"ebizforyou*"
"Greatidea*", or
"gofast*"
2.2 Copy the list on two other pages in the same spreadsheet file
2.3 On each page, use the Edit/replace command to replace the "*" for the 3 endings that are currently most popular: .com, .net, and .biz
2.4 You should end up with three lists, with the same name and three endings, .com, .net, .biz
Example:
On page 1, ebizforyou.com, greatidea.com, and gofast.com,
On page 2, ebizforyou.net, greatidea.net, and gofast.net,
On page three, ebizforyou.biz, greatidea.biz, and gofast.biz,
2.5 Cut and paste page 2 and three unto page 1. All names are now in the same page.
2.6 Sort out the names in alphabetical order, they should group by name, with their three endings.
Example:
ebizforyou.biz
ebizforyou.com
ebizforyou.net
gofast.biz
gofast.com
gofast.net
greatidea.biz
greatidea.com
greatidea.net
Save your work, I recommend you save it as: Mydocuments/Ebizforyou/Domain names.xls

3 Go to RegistryWeb, and start the search for available names. Use the multiple names registration for search purposes, we will register only one

RegistryWeb

3.1.1      If you wrote it down in paper, then write them up in the available input box, concentrate on the .com names, or you are going to have to write the .com, .net, and .biz for each name you have written.

3.1.2      If you have the spreadsheet, copy and paste your list into the multiple search.

3.2             Key Enter

3.3            The Registrar will now tell you which names are not available.

3.4             Compare to your original list.

3.5             On paper, scratch out the names that are not available.

3.6             In the spreadsheet, in a separate column "Status", write down na (not available), for those in such status; write nc(not complete), for those that are available, but one or two of the other endings are not.

Not doing so, I now have a .net ending, and have to hunt for the .com when I get to the volume business I am determined to reach. I may have to change names in a while. Learn from my mistakes, save money.  Forget the bidding war, I tried it and they won't let you bid under 200 dollars. There's better places to put our money.

3.6.1      Sort by the status column, na, nc, or blank. Concentrate on the blank names, i.e., those that are available in the three endings. Exception: if the .com is available, then it may be worth not having the other two endings; you never know, someone may already be doing the job for you, o they may bid for your domain name!  But that is not our business.

4            Choose the name that your client will like best! You're criteria should include:

·        Short, people will have to write these at least once in their lifetime

·        Easy to remember, catchy

·        Relevant, the name should to refer to your line of business; search engines use your domain name for their keywords –so people can find you

4.1             After at most three consecutive days of brainstorming and three times checking for availability, sorting and changing status, you should have a list of domain names.

4.2             If you are gung ho, pick the name and sign up!

5            Get your credit card ready, you'll need the name as it appears on the card, your card's statement address, and the due date or four digit safety number on the back of the card. You'll pay for the domain, I was not  charged for the transfer into another host, even though they mention a charge. First charge \$10 dollars, included in your budget.

If you do not have a credit card, you can find several options:
